WoW: Threats against Christie Golden - that can't be it, can it?!

World of Warcraft's story twists and turns have been discussed with all passion for years. And that's a good thing, because when a story stirs emotions, whether anger, joy, or amusement, it's usually a good story that will stay with you past its best-before date. Nothing is worse for writers, in WoW and elsewhere, when the narrative you've written and directed isn't remembered.

Attention: The following contains spoilers for the current ending of Sanctum of Domination. If you don't want to know, better read away. And I wish you well in avoiding further spoilers. Sylvanas in the Sanctum of Domination Source: Blizzard

Sylvanas' End 101

Just with the release of the new WoW raid Sanctum of Domination, the developers and storytellers at Blizzard have struck another nerve. In the raid's end cinematic, it's been revealed where the journey is headed for the Dungeon Master and Anduin, and that Sylvanas is somewhat left behind as "the dumbest person in Azeroth." Her fate is left to Bolvar, Jaina, and Thrall.

This development has been apparent before, if you were a fan willing to consume other Blizzard media - or if you listened carefully to our Lorequeen Tanja. The end cinematic from the Sanctum stirred up plenty of emotions. Positive ones, negative ones, in many cases eye-rolling because Sylvanas actually looks a bit silly. People making fun of it, of what happened there. It's all good. But ...

Death threats against Christie Golden

There's a line that no one should cross, and for some users of the Internet, it seems to blur or even fall with the anonymity that reigns therein. Warcraft author Christie Golden tweeted that she received her first death threat. "Didn't take long," she wrote. "Got reported, blocked, and along with that person, everyone else who liked the post. "

To put it bluntly, this does not work!!! It never works and should you be one of those people who have a fast mouth and even faster typing fingers: You should NEVER threaten people! And certainly not because of the course of a fictional story you don't like. Various developer greats from the Blizzard universe jump in to help Christie Golden out. Greg "Gehostcrawler" Street, for instance, writes that "players are the best and worst part of what we do :("

also bad that James Waugh has to tweet, "This has happened to me several times over the years and it has always driven me insane and saddened me in terms of humanity. "

In all clarity, these people are doing a job and they want to stir emotions, right. But there's no reason to go after their lives, not even to send them a threatening message in jest. I don't think anyone in our buffed community would do such a thing. And if they did: engage your brain first and then deal with any emotions sensibly
