WoW: AWC, MDI, Classic - Blizzard's plans for the 15th anniversary of WoW-Esports

New year, new Esports tournaments for World of Warcraft. According to Blizzard, 2022 will be a special year. After all, the 15th anniversary of WoW Esports is coming up. To find out more about the plans for Arena World Championship (AWC), Mythic Dungeon International (MDI) and Classic Arena Tournament, read on.

General information about WoW Esports in 2022

  • The total prize money for all three tournaments in 2022 is 1.8 million US dollars.
  • The qualifying tournaments and regular seasons will continue to be held online.
  • In the summer of 2022, Blizzard plans to host an event with visitors to compete in the Season 3 Championships of Shadowlands of the AWC and MDI. Whether this will happen depends on the pandemic situation.

Arena World Championship in 2022

  • The AWC will kick off 2022 on March 18, 20220with the first Season Cups, and registrations for Europe and North America are already underway!
  • Similar to 2021, teams from North America and Europe will compete in four separate Cups in 2022 for a weekly prize purse of $10,000 per region as well as points to qualify for the AWC Circuit.
  • The eight teams from each region with the most points will advance to the Circuit. This is a four-week round-robin tournament with a global prize pool of US$320,000.
  • The top four teams in the Circuit will compete in the Grand Final for their share of the $300,000 prize pool!
  • After the end of Season 3, Blizzard plans to release the schedule and details for the remainder of 2022. This will include testing a few new ideas for PvP competitions.

Mythic Dungeon International 2022

  • The group format from Season 2 is coming back.
  • Starting today, teams can register for the season's timed trials, which begin March 30, 2022.
  • The top 24 teams will advance to the group stage, where they will compete for weekly prize pools of $30,000 and an invitation to the Global Finals.
  • Together with the best team from China and the winners of the "Last Stand" tournament from Season 3, these teams will then compete for the global championship title (prize pool: 300,000 US dollars).
  • In 2022, Blizzard plans to host a mini-season of "The Great Push" over several weekends, handing out an additional $210,00 in prize money after the conclusion of Season 3's MDI Global Finals. More details will follow later this year.

Classic Arena Tournament in 2022

  • The Classic Arena Tournament returns in 2022 for WoW (buy now ): Burning Crusade Classic. Teams can thus prove that they are among the best fighters in Outland.
  • The total prize pool this year is $100,000.
  • Registration is already underway and ends on February 9, 2022 at 18:00 CET. Players from Europe can register here, players from North America here.
